Not all questions of the human heart are eternal, but the most important ones are. And the question perplexing humankind for millennia is, “How shall we live?”

Derrick writes and speaks from a Christian perspective in a historical context about faith and freedom—challenging honest skeptics, seekers, and followers of truth to wrestle with life’s most pressing questions. Specifically, he encourages and exhorts Chrsitians to live out their faith without fear or malice, and engages shapers and consumers of culture with the message that Jesus is the author of freedom.

We invite you to explore these issues through Derrick’s speeches and writings.

be brave.

Much has been said about our postmodern, post-truth, post-Christian culture, but too little about how the Christian faith interacrts with the culture in a winsome manner.

Christians, therefore, tend toward one of three cultural extremes: (1) Withdrawal into a “holy huddle;” (2) Politicizing all ills as part of the “religious right;” or (3) Hiding their commitment to Christ by becoming “clandestine Christians.”

There is a better way. It begins with understanding the times, past and present, and ends with the courage to embody truth. Not to roll our eyes at the banality of society, but to envision a better purpose. Not to curse the cultural darkness, but to enflame it with life.

This is a mission for the courageous.

live free.

If the culture is an enigma for many Christians, Christianity is clearly understood as subversive by many who shape the culture. What was once seen as a harmless and popular religion among the unsophisticated is now viewed, at best, as irrelevant, and at worst, as repressive to modern life. This is, of course, a false perception. The culture hasn’t seen Christianity for what it really is—life giving and affirming. Regrettably, this, more than not, is the fault of Christians themselves. What the culture needs is a true vision of Christ—one that communicates what it really means to live in the light of the One who can truly make all men free.
